Traditions are important around the holidays. Every year my stepmother makes dozens of tins of cookies that she hands out to family as they leave at the end of the holiday. She’s been a bit dumbfounded as to what to do for my family after I went paleo since we really don’t eat cookies anymore. I can, however, devour a whole pan of my pumpkin custard in just a few short days, but that has squash in it and eggs so it’s practically a veggie side dish. But I digress.
I’ve noticed that people tend to mourn the loss of their traditions the most when they change their diet. If you miss making cookies for your family, maybe these recipes below will help.
Sugar Cookies
Danielle Walker of Against All Grain has created a niche for herself in recreating all her favorites with alternative ingredients that don’t to aggravate her health. If you miss making and icing sugar cookies with your kids for the holidays, try this recipe out. In her photos, she’s making these for Valentine’s Day, but a quick swap of the cookie cutters and you could easily have red wreaths or ornaments.

Brownies
Brownies were my kryptonite before I went paleo. I had to resist the urge to make them or I would eat half the pan in one sitting. Seriously. Who could resist that crispy edge and soft, gooey center? Not me!
When I first began my transition into paleo, I looked for recipes like this Paleo Chocolate Chip Blondies recipe by Ditch the Wheat to help me cope with my cravings. It was just the right amount of chocolate to hit the spot without being such a large batch that I couldn’t control myself.
These Paleo Caramel Brownies by Elana’s Pantry look dangerous, in all the right ways.

Chocolate Chip Cookies
Chocolate chip cookies are the quintessential cookie. It’s the cookie everyone thinks of first when someone mentions cookie. I mean, it’s chocolatey, crispy on the outside and soft at the center. Unless you like yours a bit crispier. You can have it any way you want.
