Week Two of the 21DSD
Week two is almost over. It is day 13. The 21-Day Sugar Detox is more than halfway over. So far, I’m doing good. Great even. I hardly feel as if I am detoxing. During the first week, I used sweet potatoes to manage my work-related stress. I explain why in a previous post. This week, I ate fewer sweet potatoes as I experienced less overall stress.
This isn’t my first round with the detox. This time I feel like I am making more inroads to my bad habits, and it is getting easier. I have no physical desire for sugar or junk food. I notice that when I want something junkish, I’m usually faced with boredom or not dealing with something, like writing my blog posts.
Last night I made burgers that I seasoned with two tablespoons of the savory spice blend from Practical Paleo. I mixed chopped, uncooked bacon in with the meat and topped the burgers with some homemade barbecue sauce that I made without sugar and more bacon. Because bacon. They were amazing! Definitely a keeper for my repertoire. (I promise to post the recipe for the barbecue sauce soon.)
So far my go-to chocolate treat is a version of hot chocolate that I threw together with 100 percent baking chocolate and heavy cream. It’s rich so it feels like a decadent treat.
To prepare for next week, I made another batch of Kalua Pig in my Instant Pot. I froze half of it for emergency protein. Tomorrow, I’ll make some vanilla meltaways from the 21-Day Sugar Detox book and finish prepping for the week. I find the vanilla meltaways to be palate cleansing and nice treat.
If any of you are doing the detox, join me over on my Facebook page and let me know how you are doing.
