My food loving journey began in high school as a grocery store demo person wearing an apron a tad too large for my small frame and hair big enough to stretch my height a few much needed inches. The look of utter delight on customer’s faces as they tasted something I made, even when I failed miserably at following the directions, was intoxicating. Who knew Manhattan clam chowder was supposed to be mixed with water instead of milk? Well, I would have if I had stopped to read the directions before dumping the milk into the pot. Somehow, though, we managed to sell more cases of the stuff in one day than we had in a month. I think the milk was a twist many hadn’t considered before. Most were pleasantly surprised by the outcome. My mistake gave them permission to break the clam chowder rules. I’m such a rule breaker!

Lesson learned: Some mistakes can turn out to be happy accidents, except for that big hair. So wrong.

Fast forward a whole stinkin’ bunch of years (I refuse to admit how many), and in the fall of 2013, I decided to take the plunge into gluten-free living. What started out as an experiment has turned into a total lifestyle. A few short months later and I was hooked.

Out with toxic wheat and in with healthy meats and vegetables. Happily, I began re-exploring the world of food and discovered I love to cook, even when I’m the only person eating the food.

After tasting my first batch of homemade bacon, I declared, “That’s Yumtastic!” And the kernel of an idea for a blog was born. My goal is to provide you with healthy, whole food recipes that do not feel restrictive or overly complicated. I strive to provide quality information to make the healthy choice the easy choice.

Please join me as I journey on this foodie adventure, looking for new and exciting ways to prepare healthy food while maintaining the yumtasticness that has become my signature.
